Clear recommendation for the specialist areas of spinal surgery and cruciate ligament and meniscus treatments
The Sportklinik Hellersen continues to impress with its medical quality in 2025: in the current Stern-Klinikliste 2025/2026, spinal surgery and the treatment of cruciate ligament ruptures and meniscus injuries were once again recognized as particularly recommendable specialist areas. As in the previous year, these specialties are among the leading in Germany. The repeated recommendation by the magazine “Stern” underlines the high level of specialization and the continuous quality standards of the renowned specialist clinic.
Focus on specialization and quality
“This new award is a valuable recognition of the performance and commitment of our entire team,” says Dirk Burghaus, CEO of the Sportklinik Hellersen, adding: “It makes it clear that specialization, the utmost care and a well-coordinated team make the decisive difference in the care of our patients.”
For many years, the Sportklinik Hellersen has stood for outstanding expertise in the treatment of complex spinal disorders. With the German Spine and Scoliosis Center, it offers a supra-regional point of contact for patients with conditions such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis or scoliosis - both in the context of modern conservative therapies and surgical interventions. Since 1 June 2025, the center has also been focusing on another area: with the introduction of endoscopic-minimally invasive spinal procedures, the clinic is specifically expanding its highly specialized range of services - for even more precise, gentle and individually tailored treatments, making it one of the leading institutions in Germany.
Knee expertise - right from the start
Even in the early years, the Sportklinik Hellersen mainly treated knee injuries and therefore became known nationwide as the Knee Clinic. This special expertise has been maintained and continuously developed to this day. Accordingly, the specialist clinic currently enjoys an excellent reputation in knee surgery.
Two highly specialized departments are at the heart of care: knee surgery and sports traumatology under the direction of head physician Dr. Volker Stoll and shoulder, elbow, knee surgery and traumatology under the direction of head physician Dr. Markus Leyh. The surgical spectrum includes minimally invasive meniscus sutures, complex ligament reconstructions and the use of donor tendons for multiple cruciate ligament tears. The aim is always to restore the functionality and resilience of the knee joint in the best possible way.
The treatment figures also underline the surgical expertise: of around 2,000 knee operations each year, over 1,000 are for meniscus injuries. This speaks for the many years of experience and specialization of the Sportklinik Hellersen in this area.
Reliable orientation for patients
The Stern-Klinikliste is compiled annually in cooperation with the independent research institute Munich Inquire Media (MINQ). Over 2,300 clinics and their specialist departments throughout Germany are evaluated. Numerous factors are included in the analysis - from medical reputation, patient ratings and quality reports to hygiene standards, certifications and special treatment focuses.
The aim of the list is to provide patients with well-founded guidance when selecting suitable specialist clinics.
