Dr. Timm Steuber takes over as chief physician and focuses on value-based leadership and maximum patient safety
Dr. Timm Steuber is the new chief physician of anesthesia at the Sportklinik Hellersen. He joined the team at the specialist clinic for orthopedics, trauma surgery, sports medicine, and endoprosthetics on September 1, 2025. With over 20 years of experience in acute and emergency medicine, a clear vision for leadership and team culture, and high standards for patient safety, he aims to further develop the department. “For me, anesthesia stands for absolute safety, precision, and reliability. Every patient should feel 100 percent safe with us,” says Dr. Timm Steuber, looking ahead to his new position.
Passion for acute medicine since 1999
Born in the Sauerland region, he discovered his passion for medicine in 1999 while doing his community service. “I fell in love with medicine back then, especially the dynamics and diversity of acute medicine. I still feel that enthusiasm today, whether as an emergency doctor or now in my new role.”
After completing his specialist training in anesthesiology and additional training in emergency medicine, he worked for many years in maximum care medicine, including at St. Marien Hospital in Lünen, where he treated severely injured patients, emergencies, and complex surgical cases for seven years. “There, I not only learned to work at the highest professional level, but also to remain calm in difficult situations and keep my eye on the essentials.”
From rescue helicopter to chief physician role
His original dream of helping people in life-threatening situations as an emergency doctor on the “Christoph” rescue helicopter shaped his professional career from the very beginning. His missions in the air and on the ground took him deep into emergency medicine and anesthesiology and taught him the importance of precise action under extreme time pressure. He later applied this knowledge in the operating room: as a senior physician and later as chief physician at the Evangelical Hospital in Unna, he took on responsibility for large surgical teams and complex procedures. In the process, he learned how crucial clear communication and team cohesion are to the success of an operation.
Before joining the Sportklinik Hellersen, Dr. Timm Steuber spent several years as a coach, trainer, and consultant dedicated to developing leaders in the healthcare sector. “I have seen how good leadership can transform the work done in clinics. My goal is to lead teams in such a way that they perform well while remaining healthy and satisfied.”
Leadership with clear values
For Dr. Timm Steuber, successful medicine begins with a clear attitude. “My values are clarity, honesty, motivation, and safety for patients,” explains the chief physician. One of his central concerns is to strengthen the self-confidence of the anesthesia team. “Anesthesia is a crucial factor in ensuring that a patient gets through an operation safely. We bear this responsibility with the utmost professionalism. I want my team to recognize their strengths and go home knowing that they have made an important contribution.”
In addition, he promotes a culture that combines appreciation and personal responsibility. “We want to stand for the highest quality in anesthesia, always working attentively and critically, and always pursuing the goal of achieving the best for our patients.” He is supported in this by Senior Physician Abdulhamid Akil, who contributes to the further development of the department with his great commitment and experience.
