Sportklinik Hellersen sets new standards with digital format
Die Sportklinik Hellersen is once again among the best clinic communicators in Germany. With its project “Hellersen Insight 2.0 – From Clinic Magazine to Media Platform,” the specialist clinic has been nominated for the KU Award 2025 in the clinic magazine category. The award is presented annually by the trade magazine KU Gesundheitsmanagement and recognizes innovative communication projects in the healthcare sector.
A magazine that can do more
Since 2021, Hellersen Insight has been providing information on medical topics, offering personal insights, and addressing developments in healthcare. What began as a print magazine is now part of a cross-media communication strategy. Content is prepared in a targeted manner, communicated in an understandable way, and published across various channels.
“Hospital communication must build trust and explain complex content clearly,” says Sarah Burghaus, Head of Marketing, PR & Customer Service at Sportklinik Hellersen. “I am delighted that we have been nominated for the KU Award again. This shows that our communication strategy is not only well received, but also sets new standards—for modern, understandable, and targeted communication in the healthcare sector.”
Digital, interactive, and international
The current issue marks a complete rethink of the magazine: in addition to the print version, there is a digital edition at www.hellersen-insight.de, which integrates videos, animations, image galleries, and voice-over contributions. The online magazine is optimized for mobile devices, available in two languages, and also targets an international audience. This fits in with the international orientation of the specialist clinic, which promotes medical cooperation and knowledge exchange worldwide through the Hellersen Hospital.
“I am delighted that ‘Hellersen Insight 2.0’ has reached the final of the KU Awards – and above all, I am delighted with what lies behind it: a completely reimagined clinic magazine that not only informs, but also touches, moves, and connects,” says Dirk Burghaus, CEO of Sportklinik Hellersen.
An important goal was to adapt to changing information habits. “Our patients and interested parties now consume content in very different ways. With the online magazine, we are meeting these needs and offering a modern, cross-channel experience,” explains Sarah Burghaus. Together with her team, she has further sharpened the brand, made stories visible, and transformed the magazine into a modern, cross-media format.
From interview to multimedia experience
The magazine's content is created through an editorial process that takes all communication channels into account. Interviews are not only prepared for the print edition, but also provide video clips, social media posts, and additional content for the online version. This results in cross-media formats that can be flexibly adapted to different target groups.
Previous successes at the KU Awards
The Sportklinik Hellersen has already impressed the KU Awards several times with its clear and effective communication strategy. In 2022, the clinic magazine Hellersen Insight was awarded second place in the “Best Clinic Magazine” category. A year later, the specialist clinic was awarded first place in the online marketing category. Particular praise was given to the successful combination of online and offline media to create a holistic, cross-channel brand presence that is consistently geared toward the needs of patients and interested parties. The modern website, user-friendly chat function, prominent and target group-oriented social media presence, and newly developed brand architecture with a uniform appearance were rated as an outstanding concept for digital communication in the healthcare sector.
The KU Awards as a special distinction for successful hospital marketing
The KU Award will be presented on October 16, 2025, during the KU Management Congress in Berlin. For the tenth time, the trade magazine KU Gesundheitsmanagement is honoring outstanding projects in hospital marketing that respond to current challenges in the healthcare sector with innovative concepts. Awards will be given for effective communication strategies in the categories of hospital marketing, patient communication, employer marketing, online marketing, and hospital magazines.
