Sportklinik Hellersen is looking for federal volunteers for the operating room

Insight into the orthopedic specialist clinic / "We work hand in hand".

Get a taste of everyday hospital life for a year and get an up-close look at the operating room. This opportunity is offered by the Hellersen Sports Clinic. The orthopedic specialty clinic is looking for young people who would like to complete a federal voluntary service - Bufdi for short - in the hospital and especially in the operating room.

Why in the operating room of all places?
"Of course, we also accept applications for federal voluntary service on the ward. But we are also explicitly looking for support for tasks in the operating room," says Leonie Schaulandt, Head of Human Resources at the Hellersen Sports Clinic. The tasks are mainly of a supporting nature. The assignment is possible either in the anesthesia area or directly in the OR service.

What are the tasks of a Bufdi in the OR?
A Bufdi mainly performs transport and organizational services and assists with preparations. This includes, for example, preparing the operating room with the necessary instruments for the next operation, stocking the storeroom and bringing the patients to the operating room and transferring them from the hospital bed to the operating table, so to speak. The checklist must be strictly followed. Is it the right patient? What operation is being performed on him? Is there anything important that needs to be taken into account?

If the Bufdi is working in anesthesia, he or she can assist with the induction of anesthesia and with pain therapy. Here, too, he takes on many preparatory tasks. However, these are mainly performed in the anteroom of the operating room.

What distinguishes the work in the OR at the Hellersen Sports Clinic?
"Working in the OR is very varied because of the different procedures. In addition, we are a very well-coordinated team and the atmosphere is very familiar. There is a lot of cohesion here. We are looking forward to the support of a Bufdi and to welcoming him or her into our team," says Eleni Krumminga, OR nurse at the Hellersen Sports Clinic.

"I have been working as a surgical technical assistant at the Hellersen Sports Clinic since 2007. In doing so, I find orthopedics very interesting. It is fascinating to see what becomes possible again because of medicine, even after an accident. But above all, I like working in a team. In the operating room, we work hand in hand and everyone takes responsibility," says Serap Civelek.

What requirements should a potential Bufdi have?
To be able to work in the OR, the person should be at least 18 years old. To work in a hospital, proof of hepatitis vaccination and measles vaccination is required. "Anyone who wants to work in a hospital should also be good with people. Maintaining a respectful relationship as well as observing confidentiality is a prerequisite," says Leonie Schaulandt. In principle, anyone can complete a federal voluntary service, for example, to bridge time after school or in search of orientation. It is particularly suitable for gaining a professional insight into a clinic if, for example, the person concerned would like to study medicine later or work in another area in the healthcare sector.

What else should applicants know?
The length of the Federal Volunteer Service is variable. As a rule, it is one year, but at least six months and should not exceed 24 months. In addition to the service in the facility, seminars are also attended. These take place in block courses. The main focus here is on social skills and technical information.

How can I apply?
Interested persons should send their applications directly to the personnel department of the Hellersen Sports Clinic - by phone on 02351 945-2330 or by e-mail to karriere@hellersen.de. The application should include a cover letter with details of the desired period of service, as well as a curriculum vitae with passport photograph.
