Hellersen Sports Clinic one step closer to becoming a sustainable clinic

Specialty clinic introduces RECUP reusable system

Sustainability and environmental protection are becoming increasingly important. However, in healthcare and especially in hospitals, it is often difficult to act and take measures sustainably due to the high hygienic requirements. "Sustainability is very close to our hearts. Therefore, we are happy to have RECUP as a partner on our side, with whom we can offer our patients, visitors and employees a great and well thought-out reusable system in our cafeteria," announces Dirk Burghaus, CEO of the Hellersen Sports Clinic.

Since this week, the reusable cups and bowls (RECUP and REBOWL) have been in use in the cafeteria of the special clinic, where employees, patients and visitors can take both hot and cold food and drinks. "During the Corona pandemic, it became increasingly common for employees in particular to take advantage of the cafeteria food takeaway option. We would like to continue to offer this possibility to our employees, but also to our patients and visitors - and with RECUP we can implement this in a sustainable way," explains Dirk Burghaus.

This is how the system works:
Unlike other reusable systems, RECUP offers a decisive advantage: employees, patients and visitors do not have to buy the reusable cups and bowls. Through the deposit system, they "rent" them - similar to deposit bottles. A deposit of one euro is charged per cup and five euros per tray - regardless of size and design. When the cups are returned, the deposit is refunded. This is possible not only at the Hellersen Sports Clinic, but at all RECUP partners throughout Germany, provided they offer the same system components. There are also already some RECUP partners in the region, such as the SHELL gas station on the corner of Paulmannshöher Straße.

About RECUP:
The company was founded in 2016 and offers a large reusable system consisting of various cup and tray sizes throughout Germany. RECUP's goal is to avoid packaging waste and make disposable packaging superfluous. Therefore, the system was also developed specifically for the demands of the catering industry.

Sustainable facts:

  • One REBOWL can replace up to 500 disposable packs and one RECUP can replace up to 1,000 disposable cups.
  • The cup and tray are 100 percent recyclable and BPA-free.
  • By making the boxes and cups reusable, not only is waste avoided, but employees, patients and visitors who use the reusable products also save money through the deposit system by not having to invest it in expensive disposable packaging when they want to take something away.

Hellersen Sports Clinic also sustainable in the operating theater
The Hellersen Sports Clinic has already been committed to sustainability in the past and has sought new solutions to this end. For example, the BlueLavage system from the Lüdenscheid-based company UTK Solution GmbH has already been used for hip operations in the clinic's operating room for three years. In order to rinse and dry the bone clean down to the smallest particles during a prosthesis operation, the surfaces are treated with a JetLavage during the operation. The complete JetLavage system is completely disposed of after the operation. The BlueLavage used at the Hellersen Sports Clinic is different - here, on the other hand, the drive system can be reused and recharged. The Hellersen Sports Clinic was one of the first clinics to test the system for the first time three years ago and has been using it extensively ever since.
